How this is calculated

  1. Clicks per post: monthly searches for the keyword × the click-through rate at your position. The rate comes from First Page Sage, for searches with an AI answer, without one, or both blended.
  2. Ranking posts: each post targets its own keyword and starts getting clicks the month after it is published. In month 12, all posts from months 1 to 11 get clicks.
  3. Customers: clicks × your conversion rate. Revenue: customers × the value of one customer.
  4. ROI: (revenue − cost) ÷ cost over the 12 months. Break-even is the first month in which total revenue reaches total cost.
  5. Most pages never reach the top 10. Ahrefs found that only 1.74% of new pages did within a year. Use the average position you expect across all posts, not your best case.

Questions

First Page Sage data for March to August 2026. Across all searches, position 1 gets 7.1% of clicks, position 2 gets 3.0%, and position 3 gets 1.7%. On a search without an AI answer, position 1 gets 22.6%. The report found an AI answer on 81.6% of U.S. searches.
A post starts to get clicks in the month after it is published. Many posts take longer to rank, and most never reach the top 10, so treat the result as an upper bound for the position you enter.
Google Keyword Planner shows a range for free. SEO tools such as Ahrefs, Semrush, and Aranx show an estimate for each keyword. Enter the average for the keywords you plan to target.
Use your own rate: leads or sales from organic search divided by visits from organic search. If you do not track it yet, run the estimate at 1% and at 3% to see the range.
