By Aranx ยท Research reviewed
A startup has less time than most companies to find out whether a channel works. CB Insights puts the median gap between a failed startup's last fundraise and its shutdown at 22 months. Organic search is slow but cheap, and it compounds only if someone keeps publishing. This page uses Ahrefs, Orbit Media, and CB Insights data to set the timeline and the effort, then shows how a founder or first marketing hire can run the channel with Aranx.
Is this page for you?
A good fit when
- You have a live website with a product people search for
- Nobody on the team writes full time
- You can spend six months before judging the channel
Not the right tool when
- You need traffic this quarter to hit a number
- Your product is pre-launch with no site to draw context from
- You cannot review drafts for accuracy

Runway sets the calendar
CB Insights analyzed public post-mortems and shutdown announcements from 431 venture-backed companies that closed since 2023 and identified failure reasons for 385 of them. Running out of capital was cited by 70%, poor product-market fit by 43%, and market timing by 29%. The reasons overlap, so the figures do not sum to 100. Over half of the companies shut down within two years of their last raise.
That has nothing to say about content directly. It says that a channel with a six-month lag has to start before the company needs it. If organic search is going to matter in month 18, the first articles need to be live by month six.

Expect months, not weeks
Ahrefs tracked one million random URLs first seen in September 2023 for a year. Only 1.74% reached the top 10 for any keyword, or 6.11% when the sample was narrowed to non-empty English pages. Among pages that did reach the top 10 for lower-volume terms, arrivals were spread through the year, with roughly a quarter landing in each of the first three windows. Ahrefs suggests reviewing an article at around six months if it is still outside the top 10.
Google's own SEO starter guide says some changes take hours and others months, and that you should wait a few weeks before judging an effect. Write the six-month review into the plan on day one.

AI alone does not move results
Orbit Media's 2026 survey of 1,042 content marketers found that 92.4% use AI for blogging and that 13.9% say their blog delivers strong results, the lowest share in the series. The page notes that AI use correlates with nothing in the results data. Effort per article still does. Marketers spending more than six hours per post reported strong results at 20%, against 9% for those spending under an hour, with a benchmark of 14%.
A founder will not spend six hours per post. The way to get the effect on a startup budget is to let the tool do the hours of research and drafting, then spend the founder's minutes on the part only the founder can supply: the product truth, the customer story, and the opinion.

Publish for the searches you can win
Ahrefs estimates that 96.55% of the pages in its 14-billion-page index get no traffic from Google. New sites do not win the head terms that pages several years old already hold. They win specific questions: how to do the job the product helps with, what a term means, whether the product works with a tool the buyer already uses, and how it compares with the option they are considering.
Aranx generates keyword ideas from your site context and competitors, each with an editorial brief that names the reader, the problem, and the business link. Pick the ones a customer would actually type and skip the ones that only sound impressive. When a team forms around the channel, the growth teams page covers cohorts and reporting.

Keep the disclosure and the byline honest
Google's helpful-content guidance says appropriate AI use is fine, warns against extensive automation across many topics, and asks whether AI use is self-evident to readers through disclosures or otherwise. It recommends bylines where readers expect them and says there is no preferred word count.
For a startup blog that means a real name on each post, a short line about how articles are produced, and a review of every draft before it goes live. Aranx can push articles to the CMS as drafts or keep them local until you publish, so the review step is built into the flow.

Use Aranx as the first content channel
Connect the site. Aranx gathers the business context and competitors, proposes audience profiles, and builds a style profile from your choices. Enable the content strategies that fit, generate keyword ideas, and set the schedule. Articles arrive with images and internal links and go to WordPress, Shopify, or your own frontend through the API. The how it works section shows the steps and the documentation covers setup.
Start the trial, review the first week of drafts, and fix the context where the writer got the product wrong. Then let it run and check Search Console monthly. Aranx supports a daily cadence. Whether the channel pays depends on the topics, the site, and the market.
Match the buyer question to the content
Illustrative examples for a scheduling software startup. Choose topics from your own site and search data.
| Buyer question | Best starting format | What the page must show |
|---|---|---|
| How do I schedule shifts for a small team? | How-to guide | A method that works in a spreadsheet, then where software helps |
| Your product or the incumbent? | Comparison article | Criteria set before the verdict and a dated review |
| Does it connect to my payroll tool? | Integration explainer | Verified setup steps and current limits |
| What does a term in your pricing mean? | Definition article | A plain definition and an example from your product |
| What did other small teams do? | Customer story | A named customer, the problem, and what changed |
