1
Set your Google hours, category and name the way Google asks
Google tells restaurants to list the hours diners can sit down and eat as their main hours. Wrong hours send hungry people to a locked door, and a wrong category hides you from cuisine searches.
Start here: Go to business.google.com and open your Business Profile. Estimated time: 30 min.
2
Put your full menu on Google and on your website
Diners compare dishes and prices before they choose. Google may copy menu data from your website onto your profile, so a typed menu on your site keeps both places accurate.
Start here: In your Business Profile, select Edit menu. Estimated time: 1 hour.

Take control of the order and reserve buttons
Delivery apps that say they work with you can appear on your profile automatically. You decide which link is preferred, so diners can order pickup from you directly.

What the search data tells restaurants
Aranx compared this page's 14 selected searches. Use the counts to compare customer needs, then choose a topic that fits what you offer. National counts do not tell you how many customers you can reach in your own service area.
Compare searches from people ready to act
- restaurants near me
- 101,000,000
- food near me
- 68,000,000
- brunch near me
- 2,240,000
These are the largest reported action searches in this sample, measured as average monthly US searches. A larger count does not mean a page is easier to rank. Match the page to the customer's actual question and your ability to help.
Use seasonality to decide when to prepare
For "restaurants near me", July 2026 had 151,000,000 searches. January 2026 had 83,100,000. The peak was 1.8 times the low. Compare this pattern with your own season and customer history before scheduling content.
Sources, method and limits
Prepared by Aranx. Search source: Google Ads search volume via DataForSEO, United States, August 2026. We rechecked all 416 distinct customer queries across the 30 playbooks on October 13, 2026. Location: United States. Language: English. Search partners are excluded.
This is an editorial sample, not a complete list or a survey of businesses. Google Ads counts are approximate and can group similar phrases. Ad prices vary by place, time and advertiser. They do not measure organic ranking difficulty or expected revenue.
The seasonal comparison divides the highest monthly count by the lowest in the series. The action-search comparison sorts the reported average monthly counts for searches labeled ready to act. These are Aranx calculations, not customer results.

Measure reservations over 90 days
Download the results worksheet from the planner. Record your baseline before changing anything. Track website search clicks, inquiries and reservations in separate columns.
Use Search Console for website search clicks. Record the source people report and the outcome you can confirm. A click count alone does not show whether more people chose your business.
Note changes to pages, ads, pricing, availability and seasonality. Review the pattern after 90 days and choose your next task. Keep customer names and contact details out of the worksheet.

Set your Google hours, category and name the way Google asks
30 min
Google tells restaurants to list the hours diners can sit down and eat as their main hours. Wrong hours send hungry people to a locked door, and a wrong category hides you from cuisine searches.
- Go to business.google.com and open your Business Profile.
- Select Edit profile, then Business information, and set your main hours to your dine-in hours.
- Add takeout, delivery, brunch or happy hour times under More hours.
- Add special hours now for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve.
- Pick the most specific primary category, such as Thai restaurant or Pizza restaurant, instead of plain Restaurant.
- Check that your business name matches your sign exactly, with no added words like "best" or a neighborhood name.
Put your full menu on Google and on your website
1 hour
Diners compare dishes and prices before they choose. Google may copy menu data from your website onto your profile, so a typed menu on your site keeps both places accurate.
- In your Business Profile, select Edit menu.
- Under Photos of menu, upload one clear photo or PDF of the full menu, select Generate a menu, and check every price before you publish.
- Group items into sections such as starters, mains and desserts, and add a one-line description to your 10 best sellers.
- Select Edit profile, then Business information, then Contact, then Menu link, and enter the menu page on your own site. Google does not allow a delivery app link here.
- Flag old menu photos that customers uploaded, then upload your current menu.
Take control of the order and reserve buttons
30 min
Delivery apps that say they work with you can appear on your profile automatically. You decide which link is preferred, so diners can order pickup from you directly.
- In your Business Profile, select Food ordering and turn on Accept orders on your profile.
- Review the list of providers and select Remove link for any app you no longer use.
- Select Add a link to add your own online ordering page, then select Set as preferred and turn on Preferred for pickup.
- If you take reservations, check whether your booking system is listed at google.com/maps/reserve/partners and connect it.
- Open your restaurant in Google Maps on your phone and test every button.
Start a review routine with every table
20 min
BrightLocal found 47% of consumers will not use a business with fewer than 20 reviews, and most only trust recent ones. You need a few new reviews every week, not a burst once a year.
- Get your review link or QR code from your Business Profile.
- Print the QR code on the check presenter, takeout bag sticker and receipt.
- Teach servers to say the same line at every table, such as "If you enjoyed tonight, a Google review helps us a lot."
- Add the review link to the thank-you email or text from your reservation or ordering system.
- Do not offer a free drink, dessert or discount for a review, and do not ask only the tables that looked happy.
Reply to your last 20 reviews
45 min
BrightLocal found 89% of consumers expect owners to reply to reviews, and copy-paste replies make half of them less likely to choose you. Diners read your replies to see how you handle a bad night.
- Open the reviews in your Business Profile and sort by newest.
- Reply to every review from the last three months, good and bad.
- Mention the dish, drink or server the guest named, and sign with your first name.
- For complaints, apologize once, say what you changed, and give a phone number or email to talk it through.
- Never post a guest's bill, booking details or visit history in a public reply.
Your 90-day SEO plan for restaurants
After the first week, work through one phase at a time. Most businesses see their Google Business Profile move first and their website pages later.
Weeks 1 to 2
Get your Google profile right
Make your profile match what diners find when they walk in.
- Finish the five first-week tasks above.
- Upload 20 current photos: front door, dining room, bar, patio and your 10 best-selling dishes.
- Fill in every attribute that applies, such as outdoor seating, vegetarian options and wheelchair access.
- Paste the business description template below and fill in the brackets.
- Post one Google update with this week's special and a photo of the dish.
Weeks 3 to 4
Fix your website basics
Give diners and Google a fast site with the same facts as your profile.
- Change your homepage title to your cuisine, city and name, like the search preview above.
- Make the menu page typed text with prices, and label gluten-free, vegan and spicy dishes.
- Put your address, phone and hours in the footer, written exactly as on Google.
- Test the homepage and menu page in PageSpeed Insights and shrink large photos first.
- Set up Google Search Console and submit your site.
Month 2
Claim listings and build occasion pages
Show up when people search for an occasion or a diet, not only a cuisine.
- Claim Yelp, Tripadvisor, Apple Business Connect and Bing Places, and copy the same name, address, phone and hours.
- Create one page each for private dining, catering and brunch or happy hour, with prices or price ranges.
- Add a gluten-free page only if your kitchen can serve those diners safely. That search averaged 201,000 a month.
- Set Thanksgiving and Christmas hours in October. Searches for restaurants open on Thanksgiving near me hit 550,000 in November 2025.
- Invite two local food writers or the local paper to try a new dish.
Month 3
Publish and measure
Answer the questions diners type and track what brings them in.
- Publish two blog posts from the ideas below.
- Post a Google update every week: a special, an event or a new dish.
- Check Performance in your Business Profile for searches, menu clicks and bookings.
- Count new Google reviews each month and set a target for the next month.
- Update the Google menu the same day you change prices.
Copy-paste templates
Edit the parts in brackets, then paste. Each template follows the platform's rules and character limits.

No time to write them?
Aranx finds the searches your customers make, writes posts like these in your voice with images and links, and publishes them to your WordPress or Shopify blog on a schedule you set.
See how Aranx worksHow to show up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers
Diners now type full questions into ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, such as "quiet Italian place for a birthday dinner" or "brunch with gluten-free pancakes near downtown." DoorDash reports that 22% of consumers have already used AI tools to help choose a restaurant. It also cites Yext research that restaurant listing sites make up over 41% of the sources AI tools cite when they recommend restaurants.
To be named, make your facts easy to read and the same everywhere. Keep a typed menu with dietary labels on your website. Use the same hours on Google, Yelp, Tripadvisor and Apple Maps. Describe the occasions you serve in plain words, such as birthday dinners, a private room for 20 and a dog-friendly patio. Reviews that mention dishes and occasions may help too, so it is fine to ask guests to say what they ordered.
Test it once a month. Ask ChatGPT and Google for the best [your cuisine] in your neighborhood and for restaurants with a private room in your city. If you are missing, look at the sites the answer cites and claim or fix those listings first.

5 SEO mistakes restaurants make
Menu only as a photo
Type the menu on a page of your site and in the Google menu editor. Text with prices is something Google, AI tools and screen readers can all read.
Delivery app link in the menu field
Google does not allow a third-party ordering or delivery link as your menu link. Point it to the menu page on your own site.
Takeout hours as main hours
Google asks restaurants to list dine-in hours as their main hours. Put takeout, delivery and happy hour times under More hours.
Free dessert for a review
Google treats reviews tied to free food or discounts as incentivized and prohibits them. Ask every guest the same way and give nothing in return.
Adding "best pizza" to your Google name
Google can suspend profiles that add service or location words to the business name. Use the exact name on your sign.
Questions restaurants ask about SEO
How long does SEO take for a restaurant?
Fixes to your Google Business Profile, such as hours, categories, menu and photos, often show up within days, because Google says menu changes take 24 to 48 hours to appear. Climbing in the map results for busy searches like "restaurants near me" takes longer. Plan on two to three months of steady reviews, replies and website fixes, then compare calls, direction requests and bookings in your profile Performance report.
Should I pay for Google Ads or work on SEO?
Start with SEO, because your Google profile and reviews are free and they are what diners see first in Google Maps. Restaurant searches are cheap to advertise on, with "restaurants near me" at about $0.56 a click in our data, so a small ad budget can help a new opening or a slow weeknight. Ads stop the day you stop paying. A strong profile and steady reviews keep working, so build those first.
Do I need a website if I have a Google profile and delivery apps?
Yes. Your website is the one place you control fully. Google uses it as your menu link, and it may copy menu data from it onto your profile. Delivery app pages belong to the app and can show their prices and fees. A simple site with your typed menu, hours, address, booking link and private dining page is enough. It does not need to be fancy, but it needs to load fast on a phone.
Can I give a discount for a Google review?
No. Google prohibits reviews influenced by a payment, discount or free goods, and it can remove them or restrict your profile. The FTC rule on reviews also bans rewards that depend on the review being positive. You can ask every guest for an honest review with a QR code, a line from your server or a thank-you text. Ask everyone the same way, not only the tables that seemed happy.
How do I remove an old menu or wrong photos on Google?
Customers can upload menu photos, and old ones can stay up for years. Open Edit menu in your Business Profile, upload your current menu, and flag the outdated customer photos for removal. Then set your preferred menu if Google shows more than one source. Change the Google menu the same day you change prices, so diners do not show up expecting an old price.
Do I need a blog for my restaurant?
You do not need a blog that posts every week. You need a few useful pages that answer what diners search, such as holiday hours, private dining prices, a gluten-free menu or a guide to your brunch. Our data shows searches like "restaurants open on Thanksgiving near me" jump to hundreds of thousands in one month. One clear page published before that month can earn bookings for years.
How many Google reviews does a restaurant need?
There is no magic number, but BrightLocal found that 47% of consumers will not use a business with fewer than 20 reviews. It also found that most people only trust reviews from the last three months. So aim for a steady pace, such as a few new reviews every week, instead of one big push. Ask every table, reply to every review and keep going all year.
What should I do with my Google profile if I close for the season?
Google's guidelines say to set your regular hours while you are open and mark the profile temporarily closed during the off-season. You can also say in your business description which months you are open. Set your regular hours again the week you reopen, and post a Google update with your opening date so returning guests see it.
