- Pick the main Google category that finishes the sentence 'this business is a', and write your business name, address and phone number the same way on every site.
- Ask every customer for a Google review with a direct link, because 71% of consumers use Google to read reviews of local businesses.
- Keep your hours, services and prices correct on your website and every listing, because 45% of consumers now use ChatGPT or similar AI tools to get local business recommendations.

Your next tasks
1
Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
Your profile is what shows in Google Maps and the map box at the top of local searches. It holds your hours, phone number, photos and reviews in one place.
Start here: Search your business name on Google. If a profile appears, follow the prompt to claim it. If not, go to business.google.com and add your business. Estimated time: 45 min.
2
Set up a review request you send to every customer
Reviews are the first thing people compare between you and the shop down the street. A short, direct request with your review link gets far more reviews than hoping people remember.
Start here: In your Google Business Profile, find the option to ask for reviews and copy your review link. Estimated time: 20 min.
3
Make your name, address and phone match everywhere
Google, Apple Maps and AI tools compare what different sites say about you. When your phone number or address differs from site to site, they trust the details less and customers may call an old number.
Start here: Write down the exact version of your business name, address and phone number, including suite numbers and abbreviations. Estimated time: 30 min.

What the search data tells small businesses
Aranx compared this page's 13 selected searches. Use the counts to compare customer needs, then choose a topic that fits what you offer. National counts do not tell you how many customers you can reach in your own service area.
Compare searches from people ready to act
- open now near me
- 60,500
- local businesses near me
- 40,500
- small business near me
- 27,100
These are the largest reported action searches in this sample, measured as average monthly US searches. A larger count does not mean a page is easier to rank. Match the page to the customer's actual question and your ability to help.
Use seasonality to decide when to prepare
For "open now near me", December 2025 had 90,500 searches. January 2026 had 49,500. The peak was 1.8 times the low. Compare this pattern with your own season and customer history before scheduling content.
Sources, method and limits
Prepared by Aranx. Search source: Google Ads search volume via DataForSEO, United States, August 2026. We rechecked all 416 distinct customer queries across the 30 playbooks on October 13, 2026. Location: United States. Language: English. Search partners are excluded.
This is an editorial sample, not a complete list or a survey of businesses. Google Ads counts are approximate and can group similar phrases. Ad prices vary by place, time and advertiser. They do not measure organic ranking difficulty or expected revenue.
The seasonal comparison divides the highest monthly count by the lowest in the series. The action-search comparison sorts the reported average monthly counts for searches labeled ready to act. These are Aranx calculations, not customer results.

Measure booked consultations over 90 days
Download the results worksheet from the planner. Record your baseline before changing anything. Track website search clicks, inquiries and booked consultations in separate columns.
Use Search Console for website search clicks. Record the source people report and the outcome you can confirm. A click count alone does not show whether more people chose your business.
Note changes to pages, ads, pricing, availability and seasonality. Review the pattern after 90 days and choose your next task. Keep customer names and contact details out of the worksheet.
What your customers type into Google
These are real searches people make when they need small businesses. The last column is what businesses pay Google for one ad click. When your page ranks on its own, you get that click for free.

Claim and complete your Google Business Profile
45 min
Your profile is what shows in Google Maps and the map box at the top of local searches. It holds your hours, phone number, photos and reviews in one place.
- Search your business name on Google. If a profile appears, follow the prompt to claim it. If not, go to business.google.com and add your business.
- Choose the most specific main category that finishes the sentence 'this business is a'. Google adds the broader categories for you.
- Enter your business name exactly as it appears on your sign. Do not add your city, services or a slogan.
- If you serve customers at their homes and work from your house, clear your street address and set a service area instead.
- Set your regular hours, then add special hours for upcoming holidays.
- Finish verification. Google may ask for a short video, so have your sign, your workspace and a business document ready to film.
Set up a review request you send to every customer
20 min
Reviews are the first thing people compare between you and the shop down the street. A short, direct request with your review link gets far more reviews than hoping people remember.
- In your Google Business Profile, find the option to ask for reviews and copy your review link.
- Save the review request text from the templates on this page in your phone, with the link pasted in.
- Send it the same day you finish a job or a customer picks up an order.
- Send it to every customer, not only the ones you think are happy.
- Never offer a discount or gift that depends on a positive review. The 2024 FTC rule on reviews bans it.
Make your name, address and phone match everywhere
30 min
Google, Apple Maps and AI tools compare what different sites say about you. When your phone number or address differs from site to site, they trust the details less and customers may call an old number.
- Write down the exact version of your business name, address and phone number, including suite numbers and abbreviations.
- Check your website footer and contact page against it.
- Check your Facebook page, Yelp page and any industry directory you are on.
- Fix every mismatch you find, including old phone numbers and old addresses.
Fix your homepage title and contact details
45 min
The page title is the blue link people see in Google. Most site builders, like Wix, Squarespace and GoDaddy, let you edit it without a developer.
- Open your site builder and find the SEO or search settings for your homepage.
- Write a title under 60 characters with what you do and your town, then your business name.
- Write a description of about 150 characters that says what you offer and how to reach you.
- Make sure your phone number is in the header and opens the dialer when tapped on a phone.
- Add your address, hours and a link to your Google Business Profile in the footer.
Claim your Apple Maps and Bing listings
40 min
Apple Maps is the maps app built into every iPhone, and Bing runs its own search and maps results. If you never claimed these listings, they may show old or missing details.
- Go to businessconnect.apple.com, sign in with an Apple Account, and search for your business.
- Claim the listing, follow the verification steps, and enter the same name, address, phone and hours you used on Google.
- Go to bingplaces.com, sign in, and claim or add your business.
- Add your hours, website and at least three photos to each listing.
Your 90-day SEO plan for small businesses
After the first week, work through one phase at a time. Most businesses see their Google Business Profile move first and their website pages later.
Weeks 1 to 2
Finish your Google profile
Every section of your Google Business Profile is complete and correct.
- Add at least 10 real photos: your storefront, the inside, your team and your work or products.
- List each service or product you sell, with a short description and a price or price range.
- Paste in the business description from the templates on this page.
- Publish your first Google post about a current offer, event or new product.
- Reply to every existing review, good and bad.
Weeks 3 to 4
Give each service its own page
Your website has one clear page for each main thing you sell, plus a way for Google to find them all.
- Make one page per main service or product line, using the outline in the templates.
- Link each service page from your homepage and main menu.
- Set up Google Search Console and add your site, then submit your sitemap if your site builder makes one.
- Test your homepage in PageSpeed Insights and fix the top issue it lists for mobile.
- Put your town name and the areas you serve in the text of your homepage and contact page.
Month 2
Build steady reviews and listings
You get new reviews every week and appear on the directories your customers use.
- Track how many review requests you send and how many reviews arrive each week.
- Claim your Yelp, Facebook and Nextdoor business pages and match your details to Google.
- Join your local chamber of commerce or business association and ask for a listing on its website.
- Find the main directory for your trade, such as a professional association, and get listed.
- Reply to every new review within two days.
Month 3
Answer customer questions and earn local links
Your website answers the questions people ask before they buy, and other local sites link to you.
- Write a page that answers the 5 questions customers ask you most, including prices.
- Write two blog posts from the ideas on this page.
- Sponsor a local team, school event or charity drive that lists sponsors on its website.
- Plan a Small Business Saturday offer and post it on Google and your website by early November.
- Check the Performance report in Search Console and rewrite titles on pages with views but few clicks.
Copy-paste templates
Edit the parts in brackets, then paste. Each template follows the platform's rules and character limits.
Fill in your details once. Every template updates.

See how Aranx worksHow to show up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers
People now type questions like 'who is a good [your trade] near me that is open Saturday' into ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI Overviews. In BrightLocal's 2026 survey, 45% of consumers said they use ChatGPT or other AI tools for local business recommendations. These tools name only a few businesses per answer, so being one of them matters.
AI tools build their answers from what is already written about you. BrightLocal found that business websites made up 58% of the local sources ChatGPT Search cited, followed by mentions on other sites and directories. A SOCi study found that only 68% of business contact details on ChatGPT and Perplexity matched the Google Business Profile. Old phone numbers and hours spread fast.
To be named, write your services, prices, hours and service area as plain text on your website. Keep the same details on Google, Apple, Bing, Yelp and Facebook. Get mentioned on local news sites, chamber of commerce pages and "best of" lists in your town. Keep asking for reviews, because AI answers often repeat what reviewers say.

Customers find you on these sites, and Google checks them to confirm your business details. Use the same name, address and phone number on every one.

5 SEO mistakes small businesses make
Adding keywords or your city to your Google business name
Google's guidelines ban taglines, service details and location words in the business name unless they are part of your real name. Use the name on your sign, or you risk a suspended profile.
Changing many profile details at once
Owners on Reddit and Google forums report new video checks and suspensions right after editing their name, address and website together. Change one detail at a time and keep proof, like a utility bill and photos of your sign, ready.
Using a virtual office or mailbox as your address
Google's guidelines say a rented mailing address where you do not work is not eligible. Use your real location, or hide your address and set a service area if you go to customers.
Paying for reviews or asking only happy customers
The 2024 FTC rule bans rewards tied to positive reviews and bans hiding negative ones. Ask every customer the same way and reply to every review.
Listing every service on one page
A single page with a long list gives Google nothing specific to match. Give each main service its own page with prices, timing and common questions.
Questions small businesses ask about SEO
How long does SEO take for a small business?
Changes to your Google Business Profile, like hours, photos and new reviews, show up much faster than website changes. Website pages often take a few months to bring steady visits from Google, and longer if your town has many competitors. Check the performance numbers in your Business Profile and in Search Console every month to see what is changing.
Should I pay for Google Ads or do SEO?
Do the free work first. A complete Business Profile, steady reviews and clear service pages bring customers for as long as you keep them up, while ads stop the day you stop paying. Ads make sense for a short push, like a new location or a busy season, once your profile and website are ready to turn clicks into calls.
Do I need a website if I have a Google Business Profile?
Yes, if you can manage one. BrightLocal found that only 40% of small businesses have a dedicated website, and that 54% of consumers visit a business website after reading positive reviews. Your website is also where AI tools and Google look for your services, prices and service area in detail. A simple five page site is enough to start.
Do I need a blog for my small business?
You need answers to customer questions more than a blog. Start with one page that covers your prices, how long things take and what is included. Add a blog post only when customers keep asking the same question. Two useful posts a month that answer real questions do more than weekly posts written only to fill a calendar.
How many Google reviews does my business need?
There is no fixed number, but compare yourself to the three businesses that show up next to you in the map results. Aim to match their count over time and keep new reviews arriving every month. Recent reviews matter to customers, so a steady flow beats a big batch that stops. Ask every customer, not only the happy ones.
Can I hire someone to do SEO for my small business?
Yes, but do the first week of this plan yourself so you own your accounts. Keep your Google Business Profile, Search Console and website logins in your own name and add helpers as managers. Be careful with anyone who promises first place on Google or offers to buy reviews or links. Nobody can promise a ranking, and the FTC bans buying reviews.
What should I do if my Google Business Profile gets suspended?
Do not create a new profile. Read the reason in your account, fix anything that breaks the guidelines, such as keywords in your name or a mailbox address, and then submit an appeal from your profile. Have proof ready: photos of your sign and workspace, a business license, and a utility bill with your business name and address.
