The short version
- Connect your store to Google Merchant Center with Shopify's Google & YouTube app, because synced products can show for free in the Google Shopping tab, Search, Images and Lens.
- Name each product and collection with the words shoppers type, such as 'soy candles' instead of a clever collection name, and keep each page title under 60 characters.
- Ask every buyer for a review a few days after delivery, because Google shows product rating stars in Shopping only after a store has at least 50 reviews across its products.
- Write plain answers to buyer questions, like burn time or materials, on product pages and blog posts, because Google shows AI summaries most often for searches phrased as questions.
- A product with five reviews is 270% more likely to be bought than the same kind of product with no reviews.

1
Put your products on Google for free
Products you sync to Google Merchant Center with Shopify's Google & YouTube app can appear in the Shopping tab, Google Search, Google Images and Google Lens without paying for ads.
Start here: In your Shopify admin, open the Shopify App Store and add the Google & YouTube app. Estimated time: 1 hour.
2
Connect Google Search Console and send your sitemap
Search Console is the free Google tool that shows which searches bring people to your store and which products Google has not picked up yet. Shopify builds your sitemap, the list of all your pages, for you at yourstore.com/sitemap.xml.
Start here: Make sure your store does not show a password page. Google cannot read a store in private mode. Estimated time: 30 min.
3
Rewrite the titles of your 10 best sellers
The page title is the blue link shoppers see in Google. Shopify lets you write up to 70 characters, but Google cuts most titles after about 60, so the product type must come first.
Start here: Open Products and click your best-selling product. Estimated time: 1 hour.

What the search data tells Shopify stores
Aranx compared this page's 14 selected searches. Use the counts to compare customer needs, then choose a topic that fits what you offer. These searches describe the example products used in this guide. Use your own product research before choosing what to sell.
Compare searches from people ready to act
- candles
- 246,000
- scented candles
- 27,100
- wooden wick candles
- 27,100
These are the largest reported action searches in this sample, measured as average monthly US searches. A larger count does not mean a page is easier to rank. Match the page to the customer's actual question and your ability to help.
Use seasonality to decide when to prepare
For "candles", December 2025 had 450,000 searches. June 2026 had 135,000. The peak was 3.3 times the low. Compare this pattern with your own season and customer history before scheduling content.
Sources, method and limits
Prepared by Aranx. Search source: Google Ads search volume via DataForSEO, United States, August 2026. Example product: candles. We rechecked all 416 distinct customer queries across the 30 playbooks on October 13, 2026. Location: United States. Language: English. Search partners are excluded.
This is an editorial sample, not a complete list or a survey of businesses. Google Ads counts are approximate and can group similar phrases. Ad prices vary by place, time and advertiser. They do not measure organic ranking difficulty or expected revenue.
The seasonal comparison divides the highest monthly count by the lowest in the series. The action-search comparison sorts the reported average monthly counts for searches labeled ready to act. These are Aranx calculations, not customer results.

Measure orders over 90 days
Download the results worksheet from the planner. Record your baseline before changing anything. Track website search clicks, inquiries and orders in separate columns.
Use Search Console for website search clicks. Record the source people report and the outcome you can confirm. A click count alone does not show whether more people chose your business.
Note changes to pages, ads, pricing, availability and seasonality. Review the pattern after 90 days and choose your next task. Keep customer names and contact details out of the worksheet.

Put your products on Google for free
1 hour
Products you sync to Google Merchant Center with Shopify's Google & YouTube app can appear in the Shopping tab, Google Search, Google Images and Google Lens without paying for ads.
- In your Shopify admin, open the Shopify App Store and add the Google & YouTube app.
- Connect your Google account and create or link a Merchant Center account when the app asks.
- Fill in your shipping rates and return policy, because Google checks them before it approves products.
- Choose the products to sync. Start with all active products.
- Come back in 3 to 5 days, open the app, and fix every product it marks as not approved.
Connect Google Search Console and send your sitemap
30 min
Search Console is the free Google tool that shows which searches bring people to your store and which products Google has not picked up yet. Shopify builds your sitemap, the list of all your pages, for you at yourstore.com/sitemap.xml.
- Make sure your store does not show a password page. Google cannot read a store in private mode.
- In Google Search Console, choose Add property, pick URL prefix, and enter your store address with https://.
- Choose the HTML tag method and copy the tag Google gives you.
- In Shopify, go to Online Store, open the actions menu on your theme, click Edit code, open theme.liquid, and paste the tag on the line under <head>. Click Save, then click Verify in Search Console.
- In Search Console, open Sitemaps under Indexing, type sitemap.xml, and click Submit.
Rewrite the titles of your 10 best sellers
1 hour
The page title is the blue link shoppers see in Google. Shopify lets you write up to 70 characters, but Google cuts most titles after about 60, so the product type must come first.
- Open Products and click your best-selling product.
- Change the product title so it starts with what the item is, then the key detail: 'Soy Candle with Wooden Wick, Cedar, 8 oz' instead of 'Campfire Nights'.
- Scroll to the search engine listing section at the bottom and click Edit.
- Write a page title under 60 characters and a description under 160 characters that names the material and one reason to buy.
- Click each product photo, choose Edit alt text, and describe what the photo shows in plain words.
- Repeat for the next 9 products.
Turn your top collection into a page that can rank
1 hour
Shoppers often search a product type, like 'wooden wick candles'. A collection page is the natural match for that search, and a collection with no text gives Google little to work with.
- Go to Products, then Collections, and open the collection that sells the most.
- Rename it with the words shoppers type. 'Wooden wick candles' beats 'The cozy edit'.
- Write at least 250 words in the description: what is in the collection, how to choose between items, care tips and shipping time.
- In the search engine listing section, write a page title under 60 characters and a description under 160 characters.
- Add the collection to your main menu so shoppers and Google can reach it in one click.
Start asking every buyer for a review
45 min
Shopify retired its own Product Reviews app in May 2024, so many stores stopped collecting reviews without noticing. Reviews show on your product pages, and Google needs 50 of them before it shows your rating stars in Shopping.
- Open the Shopify App Store and pick a reviews app that sends an automatic email after delivery.
- If you used the old Shopify Product Reviews app, import your old reviews from its CSV export.
- Set the request to send a few days after delivery, once the buyer has used the product.
- Show every review, including low ratings. Hiding bad reviews while presenting the rest as complete breaks the 2024 FTC rule on reviews.
- Never offer a discount or gift only for a positive review. The same FTC rule bans it.
Your 90-day SEO plan for Shopify stores
After the first week, work through one phase at a time. Most businesses see their Google Business Profile move first and their website pages later.
Weeks 1 to 2
Make every product visible to Google
Google can read, list and show every product you sell, for free.
- Fix every product the Google & YouTube app marks as not approved, starting with your best sellers.
- Fill in the product type and vendor fields on each product so Google can file it in the right category.
- Open the Pages report in Search Console and note any product pages listed as not indexed.
- Use the URL Inspection tool in Search Console to request indexing for your 10 best sellers.
- Add alt text to every product photo that still has none.
Weeks 3 to 4
Build one collection for each way people search
Every main product type you sell has one collection page named the way shoppers search for it.
- List 5 to 10 product types from your Search Console Queries report and the keyword table on this page.
- Create or rename collections to match them, such as 'Soy candles', 'Wooden wick candles' and 'Candle gift sets'.
- Write a 250 word intro for each collection with sizes, materials, care and shipping time.
- Link related collections to each other in the text, for example from soy candles to candle gift sets.
- Replace any product description you copied from a supplier with your own words.
Month 2
Answer the questions buyers ask before they buy
Your store has clear answers to the top buyer questions, linked to the products that solve them.
- Write two blog posts from the ideas on this page. Start with the question your customers email you most.
- Link each post to two or three products and one collection.
- Add a short questions and answers section to your top 5 product descriptions, covering size, care, shipping and returns.
- Put key facts in text on the page, not only inside photos, so Google and AI tools can read them.
- Check Search Console Performance and rewrite the title of any page that gets views but few clicks.
Month 3
Get ready for the holiday peak
Your gift pages, reviews and shipping dates are live before shoppers start searching in October.
- Publish a gift collection with clear price ranges, such as gifts under $30 and gifts under $50.
- Add a page with holiday shipping cutoff dates and link to it from your header or announcement bar.
- Count your reviews and plan how many more orders you need to reach the 50 reviews Google requires for rating stars.
- Send your gift collection to local bloggers, gift guide writers and makers you know. Links from real sites help Google trust your store.
- Connect Pinterest with its Shopify app so your product photos link back to your product pages.

No time to write them?
Aranx finds the searches your customers make, writes posts like these in your voice with images and links, and publishes them to your WordPress or Shopify blog on a schedule you set.
See how Aranx worksHow to show up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers
Shoppers now ask ChatGPT and Google questions like 'what is the best non toxic candle under $40' and get a short answer with a few products named. In a Pew Research study, 60% of Google searches that started with words like 'what' or 'why' showed an AI summary. When a summary appeared, people clicked a regular result in only 8% of visits.
AI tools can only name your product if they can read clear facts about it. Write the material, size, burn time or lifespan, price and shipping time as text on the product page, not only in photos. Keep your Merchant Center feed correct, because that is the product data Google uses in its shopping results. Answer common questions in plain sentences on product pages and in blog posts.
AI answers also draw on what other sites say. Pew found that Wikipedia, YouTube and Reddit were the sites most often linked in Google's AI summaries. Send samples to honest reviewers, answer questions about your product type on Reddit as yourself, and post short videos that show the product in use. In September 2025, OpenAI started letting people buy products inside ChatGPT and said over a million Shopify merchants would follow, so clear product facts now pay off in more places than Google.

5 SEO mistakes Shopify stores make
Leaving the password page on after launch
Google cannot read a store in private mode, and Shopify asks you to turn it off before you verify Search Console. Remove the password page the day you start selling.
Naming collections in brand language nobody searches
Shoppers type 'soy candles', not 'The cozy edit'. Use the search words as the collection title and keep your brand voice for the description.
Copying supplier or manufacturer descriptions
Shopify warns that other sites may already use the same text. Write your own description of at least 250 words for your top products.
Putting sizes and materials only in photos
Google and AI tools read text, not the words inside an image. Repeat every key fact in the product description.
Hiding low ratings or paying for 5-star reviews
The 2024 FTC rule bans rewards that depend on a positive review and bans presenting filtered reviews as complete. Show every review and reply to the bad ones in public.
Questions Shopify stores ask about SEO
How long does SEO take for a Shopify store?
Free listings through Merchant Center can show as soon as Google approves your products. Shopify says changes to page titles can take a couple of weeks to appear in Google, and Google does not guarantee how long a new store takes to be picked up. Collection pages and blog posts often take several months to bring steady traffic. Check the Performance report in Search Console each month.
Do I need an SEO app for my Shopify store?
Most small stores do not need one to start. Shopify builds your sitemap for you, and every current Shopify theme already adds the product details Google uses for prices, stock and reviews in search results. Your time is better spent on product titles, collection text, photos with alt text and reviews. Consider an app later for a specific problem you can name.
Should I pay for Google Shopping ads or use free listings?
Start with free listings, because they cost nothing and use the same product data as Shopping ads. Once your products are approved and you know which ones sell, run small Shopping ad tests on your best sellers before peak season. Ads stop the day you stop paying, while good product pages and collections keep bringing visitors.
Do I need a blog on my Shopify store?
You need answers more than you need a blog. Shoppers search questions like 'how to fix candle tunneling' before they buy, and a short post that answers it and links to the right product can bring those people to your store. Write posts only for questions your buyers really ask, and link each one to a product or collection.
Why does Google show a different title than the one I wrote?
Google can rewrite page titles and descriptions based on the page content. Shopify suggests you open the page, choose View Page Source, and check that the title tag matches what you typed in the admin. If it matches, your setup is correct. To speed up a refresh, use the URL Inspection tool in Search Console and request indexing.
How many reviews does a Shopify store need?
The first few reviews matter most. Research from Northwestern's Spiegel Research Center found that a product with five reviews is far more likely to be bought than one with none. For Google Shopping, you need at least 50 reviews across all your products before Google shows your rating stars. Ask every buyer and never filter out low ratings.
Why are some of my products not showing on Google?
Check three things. First, make sure your store has no password page. Second, look in the Search Console Pages report to see whether those product pages are indexed, then request indexing for the important ones. Third, open the Google & YouTube app and look for products marked as not approved, which often lack a price, shipping rate or product category.
