The short version
- Fix your Google Business Profile first, because "mechanic near me" is searched about 673,000 times a month in the US and drivers see map results before any website.
- Build one page per service, such as brakes, AC repair and check engine light diagnostics, with your city and a starting price on each.
- Text every customer a review link after pickup, because BrightLocal found that 47% of consumers will not use a business with fewer than 20 reviews.
- Show proof a driver can check, such as ASE certifications, AAA Approved Auto Repair status and your written warranty, on your website and Google profile.
- Share of US consumers who only care about reviews written in the last three months, so a steady flow beats an old pile.
- 74%

What the search data tells auto repair shops
Aranx compared this page's 14 selected searches. Use the counts to compare customer needs, then choose a topic that fits what you offer. National counts do not tell you how many customers you can reach in your own service area.
Compare searches from people ready to act
- mechanic near me
- 673,000
- auto repair near me
- 450,000
- car repair near me
- 165,000
These are the largest reported action searches in this sample, measured as average monthly US searches. A larger count does not mean a page is easier to rank. Match the page to the customer's actual question and your ability to help.
Use seasonality to decide when to prepare
For "mechanic near me", September 2025 had 823,000 searches. February 2026 had 673,000. The peak was 1.2 times the low. Compare this pattern with your own season and customer history before scheduling content.
Sources, method and limits
Prepared by Aranx. Search source: Google Ads search volume via DataForSEO, United States, August 2026. We rechecked all 416 distinct customer queries across the 30 playbooks on October 13, 2026. Location: United States. Language: English. Search partners are excluded.
This is an editorial sample, not a complete list or a survey of businesses. Google Ads counts are approximate and can group similar phrases. Ad prices vary by place, time and advertiser. They do not measure organic ranking difficulty or expected revenue.
The seasonal comparison divides the highest monthly count by the lowest in the series. The action-search comparison sorts the reported average monthly counts for searches labeled ready to act. These are Aranx calculations, not customer results.

Measure booked appointments over 90 days
Download the results worksheet from the planner. Record your baseline before changing anything. Track website search clicks, inquiries and booked appointments in separate columns.
Use Search Console for website search clicks. Record the source people report and the outcome you can confirm. A click count alone does not show whether more people chose your business.
Note changes to pages, ads, pricing, availability and seasonality. Review the pattern after 90 days and choose your next task. Keep customer names and contact details out of the worksheet.

Fix your Google Business Profile
45 min
"Mechanic near me" and "auto repair near me" together get over a million searches a month in the US. Your profile is what a driver sees in the map results before deciding who to call.
- Search your shop's name on Google and select Edit profile.
- Make the name match your sign. Google's own example of a name that breaks the rules is "Midas Auto Service Experts", so remove words like "Brakes & Transmission" that are not part of your real name.
- Set "Auto repair shop" as your main category, then add specific ones you do, such as "Brake shop" or "Transmission shop".
- Fill in your services list with every job you do. Google asks car repair shops to list their full set of services, not only the popular ones.
- If you offer roadside help or mobile service, add a service area. Google lets auto repair shops show a storefront and a service area together.
- Add at least 10 photos: the front with your sign, the bays, the waiting room, your team and your certificates.
Text a review link after every pickup
30 min
BrightLocal found that 47% of consumers will not use a business with fewer than 20 reviews, and 74% only care about reviews from the last three months. A text on pickup day reaches customers while the repair is fresh.
- Open your profile on Google and copy your review link or QR code.
- Text the link to every customer on the day they pick up, using the template below. If your shop software sends texts, add it there.
- Send it to every customer, not only the happy ones. Google bans asking only for positive reviews, and it bans discounts or gifts for any review.
- Do not ask customers to name a tech, and do not give service writers a review quota. Google's policy bans both.
- Do not hand customers a tablet at the counter to leave a review. Google says businesses should not pressure people to post reviews while on site.
Reply to every review, starting with the newest
1 hour
BrightLocal found that 89% of consumers expect owners to reply to reviews, and 42% are unlikely to use a business that never does. A calm reply to an angry review about a bill shows the next driver how you handle problems.
- Open the reviews on your Google profile.
- Reply to the 20 most recent reviews first, then work back.
- For bad reviews, state the facts without blame and invite the customer to call. Never post their invoice, plate number or phone number.
- Thank happy customers by naming the job, such as "Glad the AC is blowing cold again".
- Block 15 minutes each week to reply to new reviews.
Make one page for each service you want more of
2 hours
"Brake repair near me" and "car ac repair near me" each get 74,000 searches a month, and "transmission repair near me" gets 27,100. A single "Services" page with a bullet list is a weak match for each of them.
- Pick your three most profitable services.
- Make a page for each, titled like "Brake repair in [city] | [shop name]".
- On each page, list the warning signs, what you inspect, the usual time in the shop and a starting price or range.
- Add your warranty terms, your techs' ASE certifications and a photo of real work in your bay.
- Link each page from your homepage and main menu.
Show credentials a driver can check
30 min
"ASE certified mechanic near me" gets 3,600 searches a month, so some drivers look for proof before they call. ASE and AAA give them proof they can check.
- List each tech's ASE certifications on an "About us" page.
- If at least 75% of your techs who diagnose and repair are ASE certified, and each service area you offer has a certified tech, apply for the ASE Blue Seal of Excellence.
- If you have been open at least one year and offer at least a 24-month or 24,000-mile parts and labor guarantee, contact your local AAA club about Approved Auto Repair.
- Write your warranty terms on your website and in your Google description.
Your 90-day SEO plan for auto repair shops
After the first week, work through one phase at a time. Most businesses see their Google Business Profile move first and their website pages later.
Weeks 1 to 2
Fix the basics
Make sure drivers who search for a mechanic nearby see a complete profile with recent reviews.
- Finish the five first-week tasks.
- Claim Apple Business Connect, Bing Places and Yelp with the same name, address and phone number as Google.
- Post a Google update each week, such as a seasonal check or a job you finished.
- Take photos of real jobs, such as worn rotors next to new ones, and add two a week to your profile.
Weeks 3 to 4
Build service pages
Give each high-value service its own page that matches what drivers search.
- Add pages for check engine light diagnostics, AC repair, transmission work and any makes you focus on. "European auto repair near me" gets 8,100 searches a month.
- Add a short FAQ to each page using real questions customers ask at the counter.
- Write your hours, phone and address as text on every page.
- Put a call button and a booking link at the top of every page so they show first on phones.
Month 2
Answer driver questions
Publish posts that answer what drivers search before they call a shop.
- Write two posts from the blog list below.
- Write a page on warranties. The FTC says it is illegal for a dealer to deny warranty coverage because you had routine maintenance or repairs done somewhere else.
- Ask businesses you work with, such as a towing company or a local car club, to link to your site.
- Open Google Search Console and note which searches show your pages.
- Look at Local Services Ads. Google lists auto repair shops as eligible, and you pay per lead, not per click.
Month 3
Get ready for the seasons
Update pages and posts before seasonal searches climb.
- Update your AC repair page by April. "Car ac repair near me" went from 27,100 searches in January to 135,000 in June.
- Publish a winter prep post by the end of August. Last year, "mechanic near me" ran at 823,000 searches a month from September through January.
- Check your review count each month and aim for a steady flow, not a burst.
- Set holiday hours on Google and check that hours and phone match on every listing.

No time to write them?
Aranx finds the searches your customers make, writes posts like these in your voice with images and links, and publishes them to your WordPress or Shopify blog on a schedule you set.
See how Aranx worksHow to show up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers
Drivers ask ChatGPT and Google's AI answers things like "is it safe to drive with the check engine light flashing" or "honest mechanic in Tulsa for a Honda". BrightLocal's 2026 survey found that 45% of US consumers used ChatGPT or similar tools for local recommendations, up from 6% the year before.
Give these tools plain facts they can repeat: the makes you work on, your ASE certifications, your warranty terms, your hours and whether you offer loaners or a shuttle. Write them as sentences on your website and in your Google description, not only inside a logo or a badge image.
Reviews add detail too. A review that says "they fixed the AC on my 2015 Camry the same day" names a make, a job and a result. Ask everyone for an honest review, but do not tell customers what to write, because Google bans requests for specific content. Once a month, ask ChatGPT and Google for a mechanic in your city for the make you see most, and note whether your shop appears.

5 SEO mistakes auto repair shops make
Service words in your Google name
Google lists "Midas Auto Service Experts" as a name it does not allow. Use the name on your sign and put services in your categories and services list.
One "Services" page for everything
Make a page for each service you want more of, with the city in the title. Each page can then match the exact search a driver types.
Asking for reviews on a tablet at the counter
Google says businesses should not pressure people to leave reviews while on site. Text the link after pickup instead.
Posting customer details in review replies
Google bans sharing private information. Keep replies about the shop and move the details to a phone call.
Hiding your prices and warranty
Drivers search "how much does a brake job cost" before they call. Post starting prices and your warranty on service pages, because Google does not allow prices in the profile description.
Questions auto repair shops ask about SEO
How long does SEO take for an auto repair shop?
Profile fixes and a steady flow of new reviews can change how you show up in map results within weeks. New service pages often take several months to rank, and no one can promise a date. Start with the profile and reviews this week, then add one service page every two weeks. Track calls and booked jobs, not only website visits.
Should I pay for Google Ads, Local Services Ads or SEO?
They do different jobs. Local Services Ads charge per lead and show a Google Verified badge, and Google lists auto repair shops as eligible. Regular Google Ads charge per click. SEO costs your time and keeps working after you stop paying. A sensible order is a strong profile and steady reviews first, then a small Local Services Ads test.
Can I put "Brakes" or "Transmission" in my Google business name?
Only if it is part of your real name on your sign, invoices and website. Google's guidelines ban service words added to a name and use "Midas Auto Service Experts" as an example of what is not allowed. Breaking the rule can get your profile suspended. Add those services as categories and in your services list instead.
Can I offer a discount for a Google review?
No. Google's review policy bans payment, discounts or free services in exchange for any review, even an honest one. The FTC rule on reviews also bans incentives tied to positive reviews. Ask every customer the same way, with no reward attached, and send the link by text after pickup rather than asking at the counter.
Should I list prices on my website?
Yes, at least starting prices or ranges for common jobs like brakes, alignments and diagnostics. People search "how much is an alignment" about 12,100 times a month in the US. A clear range with what is included builds trust before the call. Keep prices off your Google description, because Google does not allow them there.
Does my shop need a service area on Google?
Only if you go to customers, for example with roadside help or mobile repair. Google lets auto repair shops show a storefront address and a service area at the same time. Your shop must be staffed and open to customers during the hours you list. If all work happens in your bays, keep the address visible and skip the service area.
Do I need a blog for my shop?
You need answers to the questions drivers ask, and a blog is one place to put them. "Check engine light on" and "how often should you change your oil" each get 14,800 searches a month. One honest, specific post a month beats weekly filler. Link each post to the matching service page so readers can book.
