The short version
- Set up your Google Business Profile with the name format Google requires, because Google treats insurance agents as individual practitioners and a solo captive agent at a branded office uses the format "Brand: Your Name".
- Build one page for each line you write in your town, such as auto, home, renters, umbrella and business insurance, because people search for the coverage as often as they search for an agent.
- Auto insurance shoppers collected 3.5 quotes on average in JD Power's 2026 study, so a short quote form and a phone number that a person answers matter as much as where you rank.
- Show your license number and any required disclaimers on your site and in emails, because states like California require license numbers on ads, quotes and emails, and Medicare pages need the CMS disclaimer.

Your next tasks
1
Claim your Google Business Profile with the right name
Google lists insurance agents as individual practitioners with their own naming rules. Adding words like "cheap car insurance" to the name breaks Google's rules and can get the profile suspended.
Start here: Go to business.google.com and search for your agency. Claim any profile that already exists. Estimated time: 45 min.
2
Fill in services, hours, phone and description
Your Google profile often shows before your website does. A complete profile tells a shopper which lines you write and when a person picks up the phone.
Start here: In Edit profile, list each line you write as a service: auto, home, renters, condo, umbrella, life, business, and Medicare if you are appointed. Estimated time: 30 min.
3
Ask 10 recent clients for a review
Shoppers now collect several quotes before they decide. Reviews that mention a claim handled well or a yearly coverage review give them a reason to call you first.
Start here: Pick clients you helped in the last few months: a new policy, a renewal review or a claim. Estimated time: 30 min.
Your personalized template
Google Business Profile, Edit profile, Business description. Captive agents should replace the second sentence with your carrier's name. Fill the bracketed details with your own facts.

What the search data tells insurance agents
Aranx compared this page's 14 selected searches. Use the counts to compare customer needs, then choose a topic that fits what you offer. National counts do not tell you how many customers you can reach in your own service area.
Compare searches from people ready to act
- car insurance near me
- 60,500
- insurance agent near me
- 40,500
- insurance agency near me
- 22,200
These are the largest reported action searches in this sample, measured as average monthly US searches. A larger count does not mean a page is easier to rank. Match the page to the customer's actual question and your ability to help.
Use seasonality to decide when to prepare
For "insurance agent near me", March 2026 had 60,500 searches. December 2025 had 33,100. The peak was 1.8 times the low. Compare this pattern with your own season and customer history before scheduling content.
Sources, method and limits
Prepared by Aranx. Search source: Google Ads search volume via DataForSEO, United States, August 2026. We rechecked all 416 distinct customer queries across the 30 playbooks on October 13, 2026. Location: United States. Language: English. Search partners are excluded.
This is an editorial sample, not a complete list or a survey of businesses. Google Ads counts are approximate and can group similar phrases. Ad prices vary by place, time and advertiser. They do not measure organic ranking difficulty or expected revenue.
The seasonal comparison divides the highest monthly count by the lowest in the series. The action-search comparison sorts the reported average monthly counts for searches labeled ready to act. These are Aranx calculations, not customer results.

Measure new policies over 90 days
Download the results worksheet from the planner. Record your baseline before changing anything. Track website search clicks, inquiries and new policies in separate columns.
Use Search Console for website search clicks. Record the source people report and the outcome you can confirm. A click count alone does not show whether more people chose your business.
Note changes to pages, ads, pricing, availability and seasonality. Review the pattern after 90 days and choose your next task. Keep customer names and contact details out of the worksheet.

Claim your Google Business Profile with the right name
45 min
Google lists insurance agents as individual practitioners with their own naming rules. Adding words like "cheap car insurance" to the name breaks Google's rules and can get the profile suspended.
- Go to business.google.com and search for your agency. Claim any profile that already exists.
- For an independent agency, use the agency name exactly as it appears on your sign and website, with no extra keywords.
- If you are a captive agent and the only agent at a branded office, use Google's format, for example "Allstate: Joe Miller". Check your carrier's brand rules before you change anything.
- If several licensed agents work at one office, the office gets its own profile and each agent's profile uses only the agent's name.
- Choose Insurance agency as the primary category. Add a more specific category, such as Auto insurance agency, only if it describes your core work.
Fill in services, hours, phone and description
30 min
Your Google profile often shows before your website does. A complete profile tells a shopper which lines you write and when a person picks up the phone.
- In Edit profile, list each line you write as a service: auto, home, renters, condo, umbrella, life, business, and Medicare if you are appointed.
- Paste the profile description from the templates below. Leave out prices and promotions, which Google does not allow in the description.
- Set your hours to the times a licensed person answers the phone.
- Use the phone number that rings your office. Google asks for a local number over a central call center line.
- Add photos of your office front, your sign and your team.
Ask 10 recent clients for a review
30 min
Shoppers now collect several quotes before they decide. Reviews that mention a claim handled well or a yearly coverage review give them a reason to call you first.
- Pick clients you helped in the last few months: a new policy, a renewal review or a claim.
- Copy the review link from your Google profile.
- Send each client the review request text below, one at a time.
- Do not offer gift cards or other rewards for a positive review. The FTC's 2024 rule bans incentives tied to what a review says.
- Reply to every review without confirming any policy or claim details.
Fix your homepage title and show your license number
30 min
The homepage title is the line people click in Google. A license number shows you are real, and some states require it on ads, quotes and emails.
- Open your website's page settings and set the homepage title to the format in the search preview above.
- Write a description of 140 to 155 characters that names your town and the lines you write.
- Add your agency license number and each agent's license number to the site footer and email signatures. California requires license numbers on business cards, written quotes, print ads and emails.
- If you are a captive agent with a carrier-hosted page, ask your carrier which fields you can edit.
Make your quote request easy on a phone
1 hour
Nearly half of new auto policies are now bought digitally, according to JD Power. A shopper with three other quotes open will not finish a long form on a small screen.
- Open your quote page on your phone and time how long the form takes to finish.
- Cut the first step to name, phone, ZIP code and the coverage they want. Collect the rest on the call.
- Add a tap-to-call button at the top of every page.
- Run the quote page through PageSpeed Insights at pagespeed.web.dev and send the report to whoever manages your site.
Your 90-day SEO plan for insurance agents
After the first week, work through one phase at a time. Most businesses see their Google Business Profile move first and their website pages later.
Weeks 1 to 2
Get the basics right
Your agency is easy to find, call and trust on Google.
- Finish the five first-week tasks.
- Match your agency name, address and phone on Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Yelp and the BBB.
- If you are an independent agency, claim or update your Trusted Choice listing.
- Post on your Google profile once a week, for example a short tip on what renters insurance covers.
- Add a page that lists the insurance companies you represent, if your contracts allow it.
Weeks 3 to 4
Write coverage pages for your town
You show up when people search for a type of coverage in your area.
- Write one page each for auto, home, renters and business insurance with the coverage page outline in the templates.
- Add local facts to each page, such as your state's minimum auto liability limits and common local risks like hail, flood or wildfire, with a link to your state insurance department.
- Write a page that explains independent and captive agents and says which one you are.
- Add three client questions with short answers to each coverage page.
- Ask five more clients for reviews.
Month 2
Win the second policy
Single-policy searches turn into whole-household conversations.
- Add a page on bundling home and auto with the carriers you write. Advertisers paid $157.51 per click on average for "bundle home and auto insurance", so a page that ranks for it is worth the effort.
- Add a home or renters quote prompt to your auto page and your phone script. JD Power found only 20% of auto shoppers got a homeowners quote.
- Publish two posts from the blog ideas list.
- Join your local chamber of commerce and ask for a link from its member directory.
- Open Google Search Console and note pages that get many views in search but few clicks.
Month 3
Get ready for the busy seasons
Your pages are current before the months when people shop most.
- If you sell Medicare plans, update your Medicare page before Open Enrollment, which runs October 15 to December 7, and show the CMS disclaimer near the top.
- Write a policy review checklist post in January, ahead of the March peak in searches.
- Update coverage pages with any carrier or product changes.
- Rewrite the titles of pages that get views but few clicks.
- Check your Google profile services, hours and photos.

No time to write them?
Aranx finds the searches your customers make, writes posts like these in your voice with images and links, and publishes them to your WordPress or Shopify blog on a schedule you set.
See how Aranx worksHow to show up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers
JD Power's 2026 shopping study found insurance shoppers moving to apps and AI tools to compare and understand coverage. Its separate research found shoppers who use AI are more likely to switch insurers. Typical questions look like "do I need flood insurance in [town]" or "is an independent agent cheaper than buying direct".
AI answers lean on clear, specific pages. Start each coverage page with a one-sentence answer, name the towns you serve and the companies you represent, and explain local risks in plain words. A sentence like "We write home insurance in [town] with five companies and help homeowners in flood zones buy separate flood coverage" is easy for a tool to repeat.
Keep your agency name, address and phone identical on Google, Bing, Apple Maps, Yelp, the BBB and Trusted Choice. Reviews that mention a claim, a policy review or a type of coverage give AI tools a second source that matches your site.

5 SEO mistakes insurance agents make
Keywords in your Google profile name
Names like "Smith Agency Cheap Car Insurance" break Google's rules and can get the profile suspended. Use your real-world name, or "Brand: Your Name" if you are the only agent at a branded office.
Listing the carrier's 800 number
Google asks for a phone number that connects to your location. Use your office line so calls come to you.
One page for every type of insurance
People search for a specific coverage plus a town. Give auto, home, renters, umbrella and business insurance their own pages with local details.
Leaving off license numbers and Medicare disclaimers
Check your state's rules for license numbers on ads, quotes and emails. If you sell Medicare Advantage or Part D for more than one company, display the CMS disclaimer prominently on your site.
Quoting auto and never asking about home
JD Power found 45% of auto shoppers have a homeowners policy but only 20% got a home quote. Add a home quote prompt to your auto page and your phone script.
Questions insurance agents ask about SEO
How long does SEO take for an insurance agency?
A complete Google profile can start bringing calls within a few weeks, because it shows for searches near your office. Coverage pages for your town usually take three to six months to rank, since national carriers and comparison sites compete for the same words. Agencies that add one useful page a month, post weekly on their Google profile and ask every client for a review tend to see steady growth in quote requests.
Should I pay for leads or Google Ads, or do SEO?
Paid clicks are expensive in insurance. Google Ads data from August 2026 shows advertisers paid $23.71 on average per click for "insurance agent near me" and $63.31 for "car insurance near me". Ads and bought leads stop when you stop paying. SEO builds a profile, pages and reviews that keep working. Many agencies keep a small ad budget for their best line while they build their Google profile and coverage pages.
Can a captive agent do SEO if the carrier controls my website?
Yes, within limits. Your Google Business Profile, your reviews and listings like Yelp and Nextdoor are yours to manage within your carrier's brand rules. If you are the only agent at a branded office, Google's name format is "Brand: Your Name". Ask your carrier's marketing team what you may edit on your agent page and whether you can publish local coverage articles.
Do I need a blog as an insurance agent?
You need pages that answer the questions clients ask you on the phone. Posts on why rates went up, what renters insurance covers, or how umbrella coverage works match real searches. Generic news about the insurance industry rarely brings calls. One clear post a month, written in your own words with local examples, is enough to start.
How do I reply to a review about a denied claim?
Thank the reviewer, say you do not discuss any policy or claim in public, and invite them to call a named person at your office. Do not argue about coverage terms and do not confirm that the person is a client. Fix what you can in private. If the reviewer agrees it is resolved, add a short follow-up reply that says so.
Should each agent in my agency have a Google profile?
Google allows a profile for each public-facing licensed agent who can be reached at the office during stated hours. When several agents work at one office, the office has its own profile and each agent profile shows only the agent's name. Support staff and customer service reps should not have their own profiles. A practitioner should also not create separate profiles for each line they sell.
What should my insurance website include to rank locally?
Start with one page for each line you write, with your town in the title and local risks in the text. Add your license number, office address, hours and a phone number that a person answers. Include a short quote form that works on a phone. Then add a page about your agency and the companies you represent, plus a few honest client reviews.
