The short version
- Start with a verified Google Business Profile for your firm and one for each advisor who meets clients, since Google treats financial planners as individual practitioners who may have their own profile.
- Under the SEC Marketing Rule, a review you use in your marketing must disclose whether the writer is a current or former client, whether they were paid, and any material conflict.
- Write plain pages on the questions prospects search, such as "what is a fiduciary" with 12,100 searches a month and "how much does a financial advisor cost" with 6,600.
- Get your chief compliance officer's approval before you publish review requests, replies or awards, because the SEC's December 2025 risk alert found advisers using testimonials and ratings without the required disclosures.
- In 2026, 68% of consumers said they will only use a business with four or more stars, up from 55% a year earlier.
- 68%

- Pay a person more than $1,000 in 12 months for a testimonial or endorsement and the SEC Marketing Rule requires a written agreement with them.

What the search data tells financial advisors
Aranx compared this page's 14 selected searches. Use the counts to compare customer needs, then choose a topic that fits what you offer. National counts do not tell you how many customers you can reach in your own service area.
Compare searches from people ready to act
- financial advisor near me
- 49,500
- financial planner near me
- 14,800
- wealth management near me
- 5,400
These are the largest reported action searches in this sample, measured as average monthly US searches. A larger count does not mean a page is easier to rank. Match the page to the customer's actual question and your ability to help.
Use seasonality to decide when to prepare
For "financial advisor near me", March 2026 had 90,500 searches. December 2025 had 33,100. The peak was 2.7 times the low. Compare this pattern with your own season and customer history before scheduling content.
Sources, method and limits
Prepared by Aranx. Search source: Google Ads search volume via DataForSEO, United States, August 2026. We rechecked all 416 distinct customer queries across the 30 playbooks on October 13, 2026. Location: United States. Language: English. Search partners are excluded.
This is an editorial sample, not a complete list or a survey of businesses. Google Ads counts are approximate and can group similar phrases. Ad prices vary by place, time and advertiser. They do not measure organic ranking difficulty or expected revenue.
The seasonal comparison divides the highest monthly count by the lowest in the series. The action-search comparison sorts the reported average monthly counts for searches labeled ready to act. These are Aranx calculations, not customer results.

Measure booked consultations over 90 days
Download the results worksheet from the planner. Record your baseline before changing anything. Track website search clicks, inquiries and booked consultations in separate columns.
Use Search Console for website search clicks. Record the source people report and the outcome you can confirm. A click count alone does not show whether more people chose your business.
Note changes to pages, ads, pricing, availability and seasonality. Review the pattern after 90 days and choose your next task. Keep customer names and contact details out of the worksheet.

Claim your firm and advisor profiles on Google
45 min
The map results for "financial advisor near me" come from Google Business Profiles. Google lets each public-facing advisor have a profile, so a small firm can show up for the firm name and for each advisor name.
- Go to business.google.com, sign in, and select Edit profile for the firm.
- Use the firm name from your sign and your Form ADV. Do not add "Retirement Planning" or your city to the name.
- Use an office where you meet clients during posted hours. Google does not allow profiles for virtual offices, and a coworking office needs signage and staff during business hours.
- Create one profile per advisor who meets clients. Use only the advisor name, with a designation if you like, such as "Jane Smith, CFA."
- If you are the only advisor at a branded office, use one profile named in the format "Brand: Your name."
- Write the business description (750 characters at most) with the template on this page.
Agree on review rules with compliance
1 hour
Since November 4, 2022, the SEC Marketing Rule has let RIAs use client testimonials, but only with set disclosures. If you are a registered rep, FINRA Rule 2210 and your broker-dealer's policy apply, and the policy may be stricter.
- Ask your chief compliance officer, or your broker-dealer, whether you may ask clients for Google reviews and in what words.
- Write down the approved request text, the approved reply text and who signs off on new wording.
- Do not offer gift cards, fee credits or anything else for a review. The SEC staff found advisers giving gift cards for reviews without the required disclosures.
- Never delete, edit or hand-pick the reviews you show on your own site or social pages. Doing that can make the reviews your own advertising under the adoption and entanglement tests.
- Save copies of the approved wording in your compliance file.
Publish a plain fee page
1 hour
People search "how much does a financial advisor cost" 6,600 times a month and "financial advisor fees" 4,400 times. A firm that shows its fees answers the first question a prospect has.
- Create a page called "Our fees" and link it from the main menu.
- State how you are paid in one sentence: flat fee, hourly, percent of assets or commissions.
- Show your fee schedule with a worked example, and match it to your Form ADV Part 2A.
- Say what is not included, such as fund expenses or custodian fees.
- Have compliance review the page before it goes live.
Match your regulatory records to your website
30 min
Prospects check advisers on the SEC adviser search and FINRA BrokerCheck, and the SEC warns them about scammers who pose as real advisers. When your name, address and website match everywhere, a prospect trusts what they find.
- Search your firm and your own name on adviserinfo.sec.gov and brokercheck.finra.org.
- Compare the firm name, address, phone and website with your Google profile and your site.
- Fix any difference through your next Form ADV or Form U4 update, or on your Google profile.
- If your firm is a FINRA member, add a clear link to BrokerCheck on your homepage and on every advisor bio page, as FINRA Rule 2210(d)(8) requires.
Make booking easy on a phone
30 min
A prospect reading your fee page at night should be able to book an intro call in two taps. Every extra step loses some of them.
- Open your homepage on your phone and check that the phone number at the top starts a call when tapped.
- Add a booking link for a short intro call near the top of the homepage and the fee page.
- Send a test question through your contact form and time the reply.
- Run the homepage through PageSpeed Insights at pagespeed.web.dev and write down the mobile score.
Your 90-day SEO plan for financial advisors
After the first week, work through one phase at a time. Most businesses see their Google Business Profile move first and their website pages later.
Weeks 1 to 2
Get found by name and on the map
Your firm and each advisor have a correct Google profile, and your listings match your regulatory records.
- Finish the five first-week tasks.
- Claim the directory profiles you qualify for: CFP Board Let's Make a Plan, NAPFA and XY Planning Network.
- Upload real photos of the office, the meeting room and each advisor.
- Add your services in the Business Profile, such as retirement planning, tax planning and investment management.
- Write down the five questions prospects ask most in a first meeting.
Weeks 3 to 4
Build pages for the people you serve
Each main client type has a page that explains how you help, what it costs and what happens first.
- Pick two or three client types you serve most, such as pre-retirees, business owners or physicians.
- Write one page per client type with the client page outline template.
- Add one plain answer per page to "Are you a fiduciary?" that matches your Form ADV.
- Leave out performance numbers unless compliance approves them. The Marketing Rule requires net performance next to any gross figures.
- Send every new page to compliance before it goes live.
Month 2
Answer the questions prospects search
Your site answers the fee, fiduciary and "is it worth it" questions people search before they book a call.
- Publish four posts from the blog ideas list, starting with "What is a fiduciary?"
- Sign each post with the advisor's name and designation.
- Keep posts educational. If a post mentions specific advice, present it in a fair and balanced way, as the Marketing Rule requires.
- Share each approved post as a Google update from your Business Profile.
- Send the approved review request to clients who have worked with you for at least a year.
Month 3
Measure and check compliance
You know which pages bring booked calls, and every review, rating and testimonial you show has the right disclosures.
- Set up Google Search Console and look at which searches show your pages.
- Count booked intro calls by source each week: Google profile, website, directories and referrals.
- Check every award or rating on your site for the date, the rating provider and any fee you paid, all shown next to it.
- If you want paid leads, look at Google Local Services Ads, which list "financial planner" as an eligible business type and require professional liability insurance.
- Rewrite the page that gets the most visits but the fewest booked calls.

Aranx finds the searches your customers make, writes posts like these in your voice with images and links, and publishes them to your WordPress or Shopify blog on a schedule you set.
See how Aranx worksHow to show up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers
Prospects now ask ChatGPT and read Google AI Overviews for questions like "is a fee-only advisor better" or "how much should a financial advisor charge." In BrightLocal's 2026 survey, AI tools such as ChatGPT ranked with Google and Facebook among the most used sources for local recommendations, and 40% of consumers said they trust AI for local searches.
To be named in those answers, state the facts plainly on your own site: who you serve, how you are paid, whether you act as a fiduciary and where you are. Then keep the same firm name, address and website on Google, the SEC adviser search, BrokerCheck, and the CFP Board or NAPFA directories. AI tools differ in where they get local facts, so matching details across these sources matters.
Everything you publish to win those answers is still advertising under the Marketing Rule or FINRA Rule 2210, including posts you draft with AI. FINRA asked for comment in 2026 on changes to Rule 2210 that cover social media and generative AI, so expect the rules to keep moving. Once a month, ask ChatGPT and Google "fee-only financial advisor in [your city]" and note which firms and sites appear.

5 SEO mistakes financial advisors make
Posting client reviews with no disclosure
Under the Marketing Rule, a testimonial needs a clear statement of whether a current or former client gave it and whether they were paid. Put the disclosure next to the review, not behind a link.
Gift cards for reviews
The SEC staff flagged advisers who gave clients gift cards for reviews without the required disclosures. Offer nothing and ask every client the same way.
Showing only the five-star reviews
Hand-picking or deleting reviews can make you responsible for them as your own advertising. Show all reviews or a fair sample, and say they may not represent other clients.
Award badges with no date or fee disclosure
The Marketing Rule requires the rating date, the period it covers, who created it and any fee you paid. Add the rating disclosure template next to each badge.
A Google profile at a virtual office
Google does not allow profiles for a rented mailing address. List the office where you meet clients, with signage and staff during posted hours.
Questions financial advisors ask about SEO
How long does SEO take for a financial advisor?
A complete Google profile and a few reviews can change your map position within weeks. Fee pages, client type pages and articles usually take three to six months to bring steady inquiries. A prospect may read your site for weeks before booking, so track booked intro calls, not just website visits.
Can financial advisors have Google reviews?
Yes, with conditions. Since November 4, 2022, the SEC Marketing Rule lets RIAs use testimonials if they disclose clearly whether a current or former client gave it, whether the client was paid, and any material conflict. FINRA does not treat unsolicited reviews on third-party sites as firm communications unless the firm adopts them or helps write them. Get written approval from your compliance officer before you ask for reviews or share them.
Can I reply to a Google review?
Check with compliance first, and keep any reply short. Do not confirm that the reviewer is a client, mention any account, or argue about the facts. Use a pre-approved reply that thanks the person and offers a phone call. Never delete or edit reviews on your own pages to show only good ones, because that can make them your advertising.
Should I pay for Google Ads or SEO?
"Financial advisor near me" costs about $22.78 per click on average, and paid ads count as advertising under the same rules as your website. Ads bring traffic the day you start, while SEO keeps working after you stop paying. A sensible order is the free Google profile, reviews and a fee page first, then a small ad test around the February and March search peak.
Do I need a blog as a financial advisor?
You need plain answers to the questions prospects search, and a blog is one place to put them. "What is a fiduciary" gets 12,100 searches a month and "how much does a financial advisor cost" gets 6,600. Two careful posts a month, reviewed by compliance, will do more than general market commentary.
Can I show awards like "top advisor" on my site?
Only with disclosures. The SEC Marketing Rule requires you to show the date of the rating, the period it covers, who created it, and whether you paid anything to be considered or to use it. The December 2025 SEC risk alert found firms using award logos without these facts. Put the disclosure right next to the badge, in the same size text.
