The short version
- The most important SEO task for a landscaper is a complete Google Business Profile with the right main category, a service area, every service listed, and real project photos.
- Searches for "landscapers near me" rose from 33,100 in December 2025 to 165,000 in April 2026, so your profile, photos and pages need to be ready by February.
- Give lawn maintenance and design and install work separate pages, because "lawn care near me" and "landscape design near me" are different searches from different buyers.
- Ask every customer for a review after each project or at the end of each season, since 74% of consumers in BrightLocal's 2026 survey only care about reviews from the last three months.
- of consumers only care about reviews written in the last three months, so reviews from last summer carry little weight next spring.

Fix your Google Business Profile
Most landscaping calls from Google come from the map listing. A profile with the right category, a clear service area and every service listed shows up for more searches.
Start here: Open business.google.com and sign in with the account that owns your profile. Estimated time: 45 min.
2
Upload 20 before and after photos
Landscaping is visual. People pick a landscaper by looking at past work, and photos from your own jobs in nearby neighborhoods are the best proof you have.

3
Ask last season's customers for a review

What the search data tells landscapers
Aranx compared this page's 14 selected searches. Use the counts to compare customer needs, then choose a topic that fits what you offer. National counts do not tell you how many customers you can reach in your own service area.
Compare searches from people ready to act
- landscapers near me
- 90,500
- landscaping near me
- 90,500
- lawn care near me
- 74,000
These are the largest reported action searches in this sample, measured as average monthly US searches. A larger count does not mean a page is easier to rank. Match the page to the customer's actual question and your ability to help.
Use seasonality to decide when to prepare
For "landscapers near me", April 2026 had 165,000 searches. December 2025 had 33,100. The peak was 5.0 times the low. Compare this pattern with your own season and customer history before scheduling content.
Sources, method and limits
Prepared by Aranx. Search source: Google Ads search volume via DataForSEO, United States, August 2026. We rechecked all 416 distinct customer queries across the 30 playbooks on October 13, 2026. Location: United States. Language: English. Search partners are excluded.
This is an editorial sample, not a complete list or a survey of businesses. Google Ads counts are approximate and can group similar phrases. Ad prices vary by place, time and advertiser. They do not measure organic ranking difficulty or expected revenue.
The seasonal comparison divides the highest monthly count by the lowest in the series. The action-search comparison sorts the reported average monthly counts for searches labeled ready to act. These are Aranx calculations, not customer results.

Measure booked jobs over 90 days
Download the results worksheet from the planner. Record your baseline before changing anything. Track website search clicks, inquiries and booked jobs in separate columns.
Use Search Console for website search clicks. Record the source people report and the outcome you can confirm. A click count alone does not show whether more people chose your business.
Note changes to pages, ads, pricing, availability and seasonality. Review the pattern after 90 days and choose your next task. Keep customer names and contact details out of the worksheet.

Fix your Google Business Profile
45 min
Most landscaping calls from Google come from the map listing. A profile with the right category, a clear service area and every service listed shows up for more searches.
- Open business.google.com and sign in with the account that owns your profile.
- Pick the main category that fits most of your revenue. Use "Landscaper" for design and install work, or "Lawn care service" if most of your work is mowing and maintenance.
- If customers do not visit your yard or office, clear the address and set a service area of the towns you drive to, within about 2 hours of your base.
- Select "Edit services", then "Add custom service", and add each job you do, such as mowing, cleanups, aeration, mulching, patios, retaining walls, irrigation and snow removal.
- Check that the business name matches your trucks and invoices exactly. Remove words like "Best" or a city name if they are not part of your real name.
Upload 20 before and after photos
1 hour
Landscaping is visual. People pick a landscaper by looking at past work, and photos from your own jobs in nearby neighborhoods are the best proof you have.
- Pick your 10 best projects from the last two years and find a before and an after photo for each.
- Take photos in daylight from the same spot for the before and after shot.
- Upload them to your Google profile. Leave out house numbers and faces unless the customer agreed.
- Add each pair to your website with a caption that says what you did, the neighborhood and how long it took. Use the photo caption template below.
Ask last season's customers for a review
40 min
Spring buyers compare landscapers on recent reviews and star ratings. Most people ignore reviews older than three months, so reviews need to keep coming in.
- In your Business Profile, select "Read reviews", then "Get more reviews", and copy the link.
- Send the review text message from the templates below to every customer from the last 6 months, not only the ones you expect to be happy.
- For maintenance customers, ask once at the end of the season and again after a big job like a spring cleanup.
- Do not offer a free mow or a discount for a review. Google bans incentives for reviews.
- Reply to every review within 2 days and thank the customer by first name.
Split lawn care and design work on your website
2 hours
"Lawn care near me" gets 74,000 searches a month and "landscape design near me" gets 12,100. They are different buyers with different budgets, and one mixed "Services" page serves neither well.
- Make one page for maintenance: mowing, edging, cleanups, aeration and seasonal plans.
- Make one page for design and install: patios, walls, planting, lighting and irrigation.
- On the maintenance page, explain how your weekly or monthly plans work and what changes the price.
- On the design page, show 3 projects with photos, the materials used and how long each took.
- Add a tap-to-call button and a short form on both pages.
Make your name, address and phone match everywhere
1 hour
Google and AI tools compare your details across many sites. When your business name, address and phone number are the same everywhere, they trust the listing more.
- Write down your exact business name, phone number and website as they appear on your Google profile.
- Search your business name on Google and open every directory that lists you.
- Fix any old phone number, old address or different spelling of the name.
- Claim your profiles on Houzz, Angi, Nextdoor and Yelp if you have not yet.
- If you are a member of the National Association of Landscape Professionals, check your directory listing has the same details.
Your 90-day SEO plan for landscapers
After the first week, work through one phase at a time. Most businesses see their Google Business Profile move first and their website pages later.
Weeks 1 to 2
Get the basics right
Your Google profile, photos, listings and homepage are complete and show recent reviews.
- Finish the five first-week tasks above.
- Get at least 5 new Google reviews from recent customers.
- Connect your website to Google Search Console so you can see which searches show your site.
- Check your homepage on a phone with PageSpeed Insights and shrink any large project photos that load slowly.
- If your state requires a contractor license for your work, put the license number near the top of the homepage.
Weeks 3 to 4
Build one page per service
Each service you sell has its own page with photos and real price information.
- Write pages for your main services, such as lawn mowing, cleanups, aeration and overseeding, patios, retaining walls, irrigation and landscape lighting.
- Add 4 to 6 photos from your own jobs to each page.
- Give real price ranges or explain what changes the price, such as yard size, slope, access and materials.
- Add a snow removal page if you plow. "Snow removal near me" reached 165,000 searches in January 2026.
- Link each service on your Google profile to the matching page.
Month 2
Show your projects by neighborhood
People in each town you serve can see finished projects near them.
- Write a short project page for each of your 5 best jobs, with before and after photos, materials, plants and the neighborhood name.
- Post one Google update each week with a finished project photo and a short caption.
- Apply for Google Local Services Ads if you want the Google Verified badge. Landscaper and lawn care are both on Google's list of eligible home services.
- Ask your nursery, stone supplier and any HOA you work for to link to your site or list you as a vendor.
- Keep asking every customer for a review when a project is finished.
Month 3
Answer cost and timing questions
Your site answers the price and "when should I" questions people search before they hire.
- Publish 3 posts from the blog ideas below, starting with the service that earns you the most.
- Write a seasonal calendar page for your area that says when to aerate, seed, mulch and clean up.
- Publish fall service pages, like aeration and cleanups, by August. "Lawn aeration near me" peaked at 18,100 searches in September 2025.
- Check Search Console for searches that show your site but get few clicks, and rewrite those page titles.
- Count reviews, calls and form requests from Google each month so you can see what is working.

No time to write them?
Aranx finds the searches your customers make, writes posts like these in your voice with images and links, and publishes them to your WordPress or Shopify blog on a schedule you set.
See how Aranx worksHow to show up in ChatGPT and Google AI answers
Homeowners now ask ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Gemini things like "front yard ideas for a small yard", "how much should weekly mowing cost" or "who builds paver patios near me". BrightLocal's 2026 survey found 45% of consumers used an AI tool for local business recommendations, up from 6% a year earlier. These tools pull from your Google profile, your reviews, your website and other sites that mention you.
To be named in those answers, put your project details in text, not only in photos. A project page that says "paver patio, 400 square feet, built in 4 days in [neighborhood]" gives an AI tool facts it can repeat. Say plainly which services you offer, which towns you serve, and whether you take maintenance contracts, design projects or both.
Reviews shape AI answers too. BrightLocal found 82% of consumers read AI-generated review summaries. Ask every customer for a review, but do not tell them what to write. Google does not allow businesses to request specific content in reviews.

5 SEO mistakes landscapers make
Photos with no caption or location
Caption every project photo with the work done and the neighborhood. A photo of a patio says little, but "paver patio in [neighborhood]" tells people and search engines where you work.
One "Services" page for mowing and design
Split maintenance and design and install into separate pages. The person who wants weekly mowing and the person who wants a new patio search differently and need different proof.
Going quiet on Google all winter
Google lets seasonal businesses mark the profile temporarily closed in the off-season. If you plow or book spring work in winter, keep it open, post updates and keep collecting reviews.
Putting keywords in the business name
Use your real name, as it appears on your trucks and invoices. Google guidelines ban extra words like "Best Landscaping Austin" in the name, and profiles can be suspended for it.
Calling yourself licensed when you are not
Some states require a contractor license for landscape work. In California, the state contractor board requires a license for jobs of $1,000 or more in labor and materials, and you cannot advertise as licensed without one. Check your state before you write "licensed" anywhere.
Questions landscapers ask about SEO
How long does SEO take for a landscaper?
Fixes to your Google Business Profile, new photos and new reviews can change how often you show in the map within a few weeks. New service pages often take a few months to bring calls. That makes timing important. Searches for "landscapers near me" nearly tripled from February to March 2026, so pages you write in the fall have time to settle before spring.
Should I pay for Google Ads, Local Services Ads or SEO?
Ads bring calls the day they start and stop when you stop paying. In the US, a click on "landscapers near me" costs about $10 on average. SEO takes months, but calls from your own pages have no click cost. Many landscapers run ads in March and April, when searches peak, and build their Google profile, photos and pages the rest of the year.
Should lawn care and landscaping have separate pages?
Yes. "Lawn care near me" gets 74,000 searches a month, while "landscape design near me" gets 12,100 and "hardscaping near me" gets 9,900. A homeowner who wants weekly mowing compares price and reliability. A homeowner planning a patio compares past projects. Separate pages let you show the right proof to each one, and give Google a clear page to match to each search.
What should I do with my Google profile in winter?
Google lets seasonal businesses mark the profile temporarily closed during the off-season and set regular hours again when they reopen. If you plow snow or take spring bookings in winter, stay open instead. "Snow removal near me" reached 165,000 searches in January 2026. Add snow removal as a service, post updates, and keep asking customers for reviews.
How many Google reviews does a landscaper need?
There is no magic number, but BrightLocal's 2026 survey found 47% of consumers will not use a business with fewer than 20 reviews, and 74% only care about reviews from the last three months. Maintenance customers see your crew every week, so they are your best source. Ask at the end of each season and after every finished project.
Do I need a license to advertise landscaping work?
It depends on your state and the work. In California, the Contractors State License Board requires a license for projects of $1,000 or more in labor and materials, and unlicensed operators cannot advertise as licensed contractors. Other states have different rules. Check with your state before you list services or write "licensed" on your site.
Can I give a free mow in exchange for a review?
No. Google bans offering payments, discounts or free services in exchange for reviews. The FTC rule on consumer reviews, finalized in 2024, bans incentives tied to a positive review and bans buying fake reviews, with civil penalties for violations. Ask every customer the same way, with a short text and your review link, and reply to the bad reviews as well as the good ones.
